Title: Great backups
Date:March 26, 2012
"This unit is simple to set up and has all the features I need to protect my iMac and printer. I especially like the fact there is no need to install any software for the backups to communicate with my iMac. It works as promised and quality is number one from APC>"

Title: Worse Purchase Ever
Date:February 15, 2012
"BEWARE! This unit does not work with all personal computers. My Dell XPS is not compatible with it. I had to wait until the power failed and the UPS didn't work to learn that the unit would not work with my PC. The recommended solution is for me to purchase another APC unit. So don't buy this product or any other unit expecting it to work. The warranty only covers defects in the device. The fact that your PC is not supported is considered your problem."

"Easy to install however, they say the software is in the box, you have to go to the web site and download it. Tech support is the best ever!!! That means a lot. Would highly recommend this battery back up. Too bad its not made in the USA might give some folks a job."

"Excellent feedback on LCD. Runtime (1500VA) is excellent for the price. Completely Plug and Play with Windows 7, no software installation required at all. Can't ask much more of a UPS than one that "just works", looks great, and is a great bargain price wise."

Title: Good Unit
Date:December 6, 2010
"Much lighter than the previous model. Easiest battery installation ever on an APC. This should be standard for all future models.
Con: Power button is recessed making it difficult to power off/on the unit. Hopefull it will be corrected in future models."

"Good machine, rugged and reliable. software not working 100% with windows 7 64-bit as sleep mode makes the fan run as if the UPS has changed from AC to DC. Hibernate no troubles. This is running 2 pcs, 4 screens and various hubs, etc with about 15 minutes reserve."

Title: clean power
Date:October 3, 2010
"First of all, this thing is bigger than most mainstream computer cases these days. The front panel LCD display is quite handy as it sits close enough to my hands to reach under my desk and check it if needed. I also have Powerchute Personal running on my PC so I can monitor there as well. Battery hook up was straight forward and simple, more so than the Back UPS ES 750 I have running my wife's PC. Overall it has kicked on a couple times and saved me from getting fragged in my games. I'm happy with the purchase!"

Title: Great for even very power-hungry systems!
Date:March 8, 2010
"I use a high end graphics workstation with 2 GeForce GTX 260 (896MB) graphics cards, 3 internal hard drives, 2 CD drives, and 2 external hard drives. The computer uses a 1000W power supply. I wondered if even the 1500VA UPS would be sufficient for my workstation, 22" monitor, external drives, and cable modem and router.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that this UPS handles all of my equipment, even at peak load. I find the "load" reading on the front of the UPS hovers around 65-70% at peak load on my computer (graphic rendering, gaming, video rendering, etc.) and drops to about 20-30% when the computer is idling. The XS 1500 handles it all without skipping a beat. I have even plugged an additional computer, a network storage computer, into the battery backup, and it only adds about 20% load to the UPS. It's really an incredible piece of technology. Don't skimp and get a small one if you have a high-powered system. This is the device you really need - and the price between it and the 1000VA or 1300VA models... it's not even worth second guessing. Get this one and don't be disappointed.
Another great feature: the battery is EASY to replace. Just slide off a door on the unit (no tools required) and pull on the tabs to yank out the battery. Slide in a new one and you're ready to go. This unit is truly an INVESTMENT that you won't get rid of any time soon. And a 3 year warranty? On a UPS? Outstanding!
Cons: I'm not sure how useful the "eco" power-saving feature is. It basically works by turning off certain designated plugs on the back of the unit when it detects that the device plugged into the "master" outlet - presumably your computer - is turned off. This might be great for a printer or something else that doesn't need battery backup, but it doesn't make sense for things like my external hard drives - which require battery backup - but the plugs for "eco control" are surge-protection only, not battery backup. Kind of weird. I'd want the eco controlled plugs to be battery backup, too. That makes the most sense."

Title: Satisfied home and business customer
Date:March 4, 2010
"I bought this XS 1500 to replace my old white Back-UPS XS 1500, which I passed down to my kid (with new batteries). The unit installed in a snap, and the instructions were easy to follow. I like the new design and black color, and the LCD screen is an added plus. It has plenty of outlets for all of my needs, cable and phone protection, and the power to handle my upcoming computer upgrade. The Powerchute software is quick and informative. I found APC products to be well built, reliable, quiet, and easy to install and use. I have APC Back-UPS protecting four computers at home, as well as five computers and a server at work. Nothing bad to say about this unit."

Title: Poor LCD
Date:December 9, 2009
"I am very disappointed in the view angle of the LCD. UPS is mounted a few feet above the work surface and the LCD is unreadable unless I stand up! I might as well saved some money and purchased units without a display. Also, the AVR only corrects low voltages without using the batteries. Not high and low voltages as advertised (Note: After much complaining, the web site has been corrected to show the correct information). All in all, I am disappointed with the two units I purchased and will more than likely be exchanging them for another major brand!!!"
Title: The Back-UPS XS 1500 has some real nice features,
Date:October 16, 2009
"Part of my Application I am using one XS 150 to protecting a Vizio® LCD TV, a DVD player, and a cable box, and a switchable LED light (for emergencies). The other unit I am protecting a Dell Computer, a 22 inch Monitor, HP Officejet Pro printer, Altec Lansing Sound System, and a number of powered USB hubs. My third unit I am protecting another Dell computer, Ethernet router/PBX, and Cable Modem. Compared with my older units (Back-Up SX 1300 and RS 1500), the XS 1500 run a lot cooler. I always worried about leaving SX and RX on when I was away from the house.
On the down side, the power cord may be 6 feet according to the technical specifications but it’s about 1 ½ feet short on the outside of the box. This can be real frustration when your desk is set up in away that XS can’t reach. Normally one would not think or worry about how much wire is on the inside of the UPS box, but I guess APC did. I just see it as a deal breaker for some people that have a long way to go to the wall outlet.
I know some people will not like the way the outlets are setup with less outlets for battery backup and more outlets with just surge protection. But on the other hand, those surge protection outlets can come in handy when you need to plug in something that does not need battery back-up, no more adding power strips to make up for not having outlets on this side of the UPS. I also like the idea of the Power-Saving Master and Controlled outlets. Most of my AV applications can’t use this, but that does not mean I still can’t use it else where.
For my system, The Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) is a must. I would think anyone living out in farm community, or in the city with squirrels, or anyplace you have branches falling on power lines, would be happy with the AVR protecting their computer system. Already in the last month, I can tell the AVR has lowered the count number of battery trigger events compared with my other two models I just wish that all my UPS came with the AVR.
I need to point out, when setting up the XS unit, it really does help to make sure you follow the instructions (picture) in making sure the battery is hooked up right. I made the mistake of not only flipping over the battery, but I flipped over the unit too not thinking about it. Thank God for Pictures, because once I realized how the door had to go back on, I realized I put the battery in wrong.
Also, if your like me and have your AV system hooked up in your bed room, you may really want the LCD Display off when you don’t need it. The instructions were wrong on Page 3, the unit has to be on (like it states on page5), then you hold down the DISPLAY button for 2 seconds, and then it will toggle on or off. I like the display, but I still miss the red display of the other UPSs. Red displays don’t keep you awake at night according to Doctor Oz’s tv show."
"Batteries will not charge and display does not react as instructions say it should."

Title: Versatile and Easy to Setup
Date:July 7, 2009
"This is a tidy, easy to set up, no-muss piece of equipment. Instructions are straight forward and almost impossible to botch. Be aware this unit is a little longer than you'd think - the power cord isn't terribly flexible.
The LCD panel is remarkably informative at a glance and the capabilities are surprisingly robust. This unit is tending to Mac Pro with large displays and is probably running at less than 80% capacity, even under load.
A valuable add to my office - equipment is now secure from potentially damaging surges/outages."
